Vidya Deepam is certified to bestow the Presidential Volunteer Service Award on qualifying members.

In order to qualify for the award, volunteers must submit volunteer hours for verification for a one year time period from July 1st through June 30th.

We can recognize volunteer hours for the current and prior calendar year.

Volunteer Eligibility

1.       Applicant must be US citizen or Green card holder

2.       Must be at least 5 yrs old

3.       Complete services within the designated 12 month period

Eligible services must not include

1.       Donating funds
2.       Political Lobbying
3.       Religious instruction
4.       Conducting worship services
5.       Proselytizing
6.       Court ordered community service
7.       Serving only family members

Note: per the above guidelines, teaching Vidhya Deepam classes or volunteering at religious focused events (e.g. Hindu Carnival) cannot be counted towards volunteer hours. Volunteering at cultural events (e.g. Holi) or seva/community service (e.g. Sophia Way) would qualify.
