Vidhya Deepam team was out in full force braving the cold weather to volunteer at Tolt McDonald park for planting trees. Working along side King County parks team and other volunteers we planted about 200 native trees from pots including 50 bare root trees. Adults and kids combined their effort for almost 4 hours to finish the day’s plan.
While we were all sore, it felt good given the benefits we reap as a community. Research shows that, in a year
- an acre of mature trees absorbs the amount of CO2 produced by a car driven 26,000 miles.
- a mature tree will absorb more than 48 pounds of CO2 from the atmosphere and release oxygen in exchange.
Looking forward to more such activities!
